Film entertainment revenue in April decreased by 96%, the lowest by month since 2000

The total amount of box office revenues of the 12 major movie distribution companies in April was about 688 million yen, down 96.3% from the same month of the previous year, according to the Japan Filmmakers' Federation's data on the 18th.

It is said to be the lowest monthly revenue since 2000, when the current aggregation method was adopted.

Due to the spread of new coronavirus infection, movie theaters in the seven target prefectures have refrained from operating after the emergency was declared on April 7. In the middle of the same month, the target spread all over the country, and almost all movie theaters closed all together.

In some areas where the declaration was lifted on the 14th of this month, the number of seats has been reduced and operations have resumed. [Joint]
