On February 24, Huawei China announced the global launch of its new tablet products "MatePad Pro" and "MatePad Pro 5G". It has a 10.8 inch liquid crystal display [2,560 x 1,600 dots] and weighs 460g for MatePad Pro and 492g for MatePad Pro 5G. MatePad Pro 5G has a built-in Kirin 990 5G chipset that supports 5G communication.
A new tablet with a thin 4.9mm left and right bezel and 90% screen occupancy. The MatePad Pro itself was announced in China in November 2019, but the 5G-compatible model is the first to be unveiled.
The thickness of the main body was 7.2 mm at the thinnest part, and it was appealing that it was suitable for carrying. The OS uses an Android 10-based original UI "EMUI with Android 10", and a new multi-window function that allows drag and drop operations is also available.
One camera on the back and one on the front. The rear camera is 13MP, and the punch-hole front camera is 8MP. On the acoustic side, there will be 4 speakers and 5 microphones [including those for noise canceling]. The main unit is equipped with a wireless charging function. As accessories, a dedicated keyboard "Smart Magnetic Keyboard" and a pen function "HUAWEI M-pencil" are available. The Smart Magnetic Keyboard can be connected to the main unit with a magnet, allowing wireless charging and tilt input. The M-pencil is a slim stylus pen that can be charged wirelessly by connecting it to the side with a magnet.
MatePad Pro uses glass fiber for the exterior, and is available in two colors, gray and white. In MatePad Pro 5G, the exterior will be vegan [PU] leather, and will be available in orange and green.
Pricing starts at € 549 for the MatePad Pro Wi-Fi version and € 599 for the LTE version [both with 6GB memory + 128GB storage]. Launch globally in April 2020. The 5G compatible MatePad Pro 5G starts at € 799 [8GB memory + 256GB storage]. The release was described as "disclosed on the company's site", but at this time no information about the release has been posted.
