Osaka Metro, experiment of a ticket gate that opens and closes a gate with face authentication–at 4 stations including the zoo-mae subway station

This face authentication compatible ticket gate extracts feature point data from the face image captured by the camera and checks whether the face has been pre-registered on the server. The ticket checker that receives the determination result that has been registered opens the gate and permits the passage.

The target of the experiment is an employee of Osaka Metro, which is scheduled to run from December 10 to September 30, 2020. In addition to extracting issues in the demonstration experiment, the idea is to obtain basic data for practical use.

Exceptions for general users, but faces appear when they are within the shooting range of the recording camera used for authentication. There is also a camera that takes a bird's-eye view of the area around the ticket gate for the purpose of analyzing the walking speed and movement of employees using the ticket gate, and the body and lower body are reflected when passing nearby.

  • Near Nagahori Tsurumi Ryokuchi Line, Dome-mae Chiyozaki Station, South Gate
  • Near Chuo Line, Morinomiya Station, East Gate
  • Near Sakaisuji Line, Zoo-mae Station, North Gate
  • Midosuji Line, Daikokucho Station, near the north ticket gate

The ticket gates used in the experiment are different at the four stations, and were developed by OMRON Social Solutions, Takamizawa Cybernetics, Toshiba Infrastructure Systems, and Nippon Signal. Osaka Metro compares and verifies the functionality, convenience, and design of each ticket gate.
